The French Institute in Latvia participates in the Baltic Pride 2021, with the screening of the French film “Portrait of a Young Girl on Fire”!

Synopsis: In 18th century France, the young painter Marianne is commissioned to paint the wedding portrait of Heloise for her future husband. But there is one condition: Heloise must not know that she is being painted. Marianne must therefore observe her model during the day and paint her portrait at night. Day after day, the two women grow closer as they share Heloise’s last moments of freedom before the impending wedding.
The film won the Screenplay Award and the Queer Palm at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival, the César for Best Cinematography at the 2020 César Awards, among others.
